Privacy policy

Harbor Hearts is a merge game for iPhone, iPad and Android published by KAWI Software AS, Norway. KAWI Software AS is the controller responsible for the processing described here. Contact us at petter@kawisoftware.com.

This policy covers Harbor Hearts 1.0.0, which has no ads and no in-app purchases. Play statistics are not transmitted in this release.

At a glance

Playing and saving progress

You do not need an account, and the whole game can be played offline. Your progress, your settings and your answer to the statistics question are saved on your device only. There is no cloud save. Deleting the game normally deletes this data; your phone’s own backup (for example Android backup or an iCloud backup of your device) may keep a copy of your progress and settings according to your device settings.

Play statistics in version 1.0.0

Transmission of play statistics is disabled in this release. The game does not create a Firebase Authentication account or send play events to Cloud Firestore. If you enable the statistics option in Settings → Privacy, any recorded events remain on your device; enabling that option does not turn on transmission in version 1.0.0. Switching the option off clears the local statistics queue.

We do not receive your sessions, progress, device model or other play statistics from this release. If a future release introduces online analytics, we will update this policy before enabling it and request consent where required.

Crash reports. The game contains no crash-reporting SDK. If you have chosen in your device settings to share diagnostics, Apple and Google may give us crash reports and technical statistics under their own privacy policies.

Game settings

From time to time the game downloads a small file of game settings (for example to adjust balance) from Firebase Hosting. These requests do not include your user ID or any other identifier from the game.

Notifications, sharing and ratings

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your phone, for example when a message in a bottle washes ashore. Captain Ollie asks first inside the game, and only then does your phone ask for permission. There is no server and no push token. You get at most one a day and never between 9 pm and 9 am; switch them off in Settings → Notifications or in your phone’s settings.

Sharing happens only when you tap Share. The postcard picture and a short text with a link go to your phone’s share sheet, and you choose the app. We do not receive the picture. On iPhone and iPad, choosing “Save Image” in the share sheet asks for permission to add photos to your library; the game never reads your photos. The link opens kawisoftware.com/harbor-hearts/get, which sends the reader to the right store and passes on the campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source=share), so that we can count installs from shared postcards in the stores’ own statistics.

Ratings. After some places wake up, the game may ask your phone to show the App Store or Google Play rating dialog. Apple and Google decide whether it appears; we receive no data from it, only the public ratings and reviews in the stores.

Service providers

Firebase Hosting provides the game-settings file. As with any internet service, Google receives your IP address and technical connection information when the game downloads that file. We do not include a user ID or play statistics in these requests. Firebase Hosting is a global service and connection data may be processed in the United States. See Google's Firebase privacy information for details. Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore are not used to collect play statistics in version 1.0.0.

How long we keep data

Legal basis

Optional local statistics depend on your choice in Settings → Privacy. Downloading game settings is part of providing the game you use (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Support messages are processed to answer your request (Article 6(1)(f)).

Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of processing or a copy of your data, and you may object to processing. We will answer within one month. You may also complain to your local data protection authority, including Datatilsynet in Norway.

Deleting your data

On your device: turn off “Share play statistics” in Settings → Privacy to clear the local statistics queue. Deleting the game removes its local data, subject to the backup behaviour described above. There are no remotely stored play statistics from version 1.0.0 to delete.

By email: contact petter@kawisoftware.com with the subject “Harbor Hearts data deletion” for requests about support messages or other personal data you have provided directly. We will respond within one month.

Children

Harbor Hearts is not directed at children under 13. We do not ask for age, name or contact details in the game, and version 1.0.0 does not send play statistics. A parent may clear local data on the child's device or contact us about a support message.

Permissions

On Android the game uses internet access (game settings), vibration, and the notification permission, which it asks for only after explaining it in the game; to keep reminders working after a restart it may also start when the phone boots and briefly keep the phone awake to show a reminder. On iPhone and iPad it asks for permission to send notifications and, only if you choose Save Image when sharing, to add photos to your library. The game does not use your camera, microphone, location, contacts or files.
